The art festival includes creative workshops and panel discussions.
It’s time to paint the town, as an exciting art festival is scheduled to take place across Riyadh next year. Tuwaiq Sculpture gives visitors the rare chance to see artists in action. During the event, there will be several activities including interactive workshops and panel discussions.
The Tuwaiq Sculpture Symposium will begin on Wednesday 15 January 2025 and run until Saturday, 8 February 2025. The exhibition of the sculptures created will then be viewable to the public from Wednesday 12 February 2025 until Monday 24, February 2025.
Now in its sixth year, Tuwaiq Sculpture is part of Riyadh Art and aims to turn the city into a gallery without walls, with more than 1,000 artworks to be displayed across the capital. The festival brings together artists from Saudi Arabia and around the world. This year, the event explores the theme From Then to Now, which includes conceptions of progress, modernity and the ever-expanding horizons of human aspiration
Applications are now open for artists worldwide with at least five years of experience in sculpting and exhibiting in outdoor spaces and galleries. Artists are invited to submit their proposals between Sunday 4, August and Sunday, 1 September 2024.
After a thorough review process, 30 local and international sculptors will be selected to participate in the symposium. These artists will create large-scale sculptures in a live setting, using Saudi-sourced granite in three different colors. Selected artists will be invited to stay in Riyadh throughout the creation period, provided with materials, tools, and assistants. The program includes an artist fee and covers all expenses, including accommodation and return flights for international artists.
What makes Tuwaiq Sculpture unique is that visitors can get a behind-the-scenes look at artists in action. The artists will produce large-scale sculptures out of raw blocks of granite, which will become permanent artworks across the city, turning the capital into a gallery without walls.
Since its inception, Tuwaiq Sculpture has connected over 90 world-renowned sculptors with thousands of visitors. The project plans to showcase over 1,000 artworks throughout Riyadh’s neighborhoods, parks, and public spaces, enhancing the city’s reputation for sustainability and quality of life in alignment with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030.
