Emmy Squared Pizza has opened its first permanent location outside the United States at Jeddah Yacht Club in Saudi Arabia.
The Detroit-style diner, which originated in a university dorm room by the founder and his girlfriend Emily, gained popularity for their famous squared pizzas. After opening their first branch in Brooklyn, New York, they expanded to twelve locations before venturing into Saudi Arabia.
Last year, Emmy Squared introduced a pop-up location at the Yacht Club in Jeddah, which received tremendous success. Due to the overwhelming response, they decided to establish a permanent branch, allowing everyone to enjoy their amazing food selection.
Destination had the privilege of being invited to try out and review the restaurant, and the experience was nothing short of amazing. Situated at the right end of the Marina, Emmy Squared offers an inviting atmosphere with a captivating view of the beautiful Yacht Club Marina. The restaurant boasts an intuitive design with a high ceiling that lends it a futuristic feel. A central bar separates the space into two sections while serving some of the most incredible non-alcoholic cocktails.
To start our culinary journey, we ordered a passion fruit and pineapple cocktail garnished with a dried orange slice, as well as a spiced pineapple cocktail featuring a rosemary-infused square ice cube that added a delightful kick.
Moving on to the food, we indulged in an array of delectable dishes. The Eggplant Parmesan was wonderfully cheesy, accompanied by Garlic Sticks that were elevated with a delectable parsley paste. The Crispy Chicken bites, served with a glazed sriracha sauce and homemade buttermilk ranch dip, were truly irresistible.
In terms of salads, we savored a delightful Spinach and Asparagus salad with smoked brisket and pecorino cheese, as well as a remarkable Chicken Caesar Salad. The anchovy dressing in the Caesar salad made it one of the best we had ever tasted.
For the main course, we delved into Emmy Squared’s specialties: their burgers and famous square pizza (which, despite being more rectangular, is cut into squares). The Nashville Buffalo Chicken Burger and Double Stacked Cheeseburger with caramelized onions were both exceptional choices. As for the pizza, we opted for the classic pepperoni, prepared in the Detroit style with a touch of chili flakes.
And just when we thought we couldn’t possibly consume any more, we made sure to save room for dessert. We couldn’t resist trying their specialty, the Zappaly cinnamon dough with cream cheese dip, which was a sweet and indulgent delight.
Our dining experience was made even more memorable by the excellent service provided by Thando, our server, and Chef Nick, who prepared the food. We would like to extend a personal thank you to them for their outstanding service. Thando was extremely knowledgeable about the menu and ensured that we had a fantastic experience. The rest of the staff were also welcoming and attentive. Don’t forget to show your appreciation by leaving them a generous tip.
